New research from The Co-operative Insurance has revealed that almost a fifth (18%) of UK adults lack home insurance and are therefore financially exposed to the risks of burglary and other hazards.

The incidence of no insurance is twice as prevalent for the under 35s, 36% of whom lack it.

More than half (52%) of Britons are planning an overseas holiday in the next two months, meaning that millions of homes will be left both uninsured and vacant.

Head of Home Insurance at The Co-operative Lee Mooney said that whilst it was easy not to prioritise insurance given the present economic climate going without could lead to the preventable loss of hundreds of pounds.

More than half (56%) of those without home insurance claimed that they cannot afford it.
