ACE has announced a pair of appointments to bolster its South Africa business, with John Nienaber becoming country president and Interim CEO Gary Jack becoming COO and head of Accident and Health.

Nienaber brings more than a decade of industry experience to his new position and until 2011 worked for Stalker Hutchinson as executive head of Business, prior to which he held numerous posts with insurance broker Glenrand MIB.

He will assume his new position on 1 June, subject to regulatory approval, and report directly to ACE European Group Chairman Andrew Kendrick.

Jack, whose appointment is also effective from 1 June, joined the firm three years ago with management responsibility for the Accident and Health business in South Africa, and will report to Nienaber.

Kendrick explained that South Africa had an increasingly important position in terms of global trade, and said that the two appointments reflected the firm’s renewed commitment to the country.
