Aviva Investors appoints interim CEO

Aviva Investors has appointed Paul Abberley as interim chief executive officer.

The move means that Mr Abberley, who is currently chief executive of Aviva Investors London and of the group’s Global Investment Solutions unit, has assumed responsibility for the global business and will be joining the Aviva group executive committee.

Patrick Regan, chairman of Aviva Investors and chief financial officer of Aviva, comments: “Paul has a strong track record in the asset management industry, and he has successfully led and grown Aviva Investors’ London business since its inception.”

Over the coming months, the insurer aims to recruit a permanent chief executive officer and will be considering both internal and external candidates for the role.

Mr Abberley’s appointment follows the departure of Aviva chief executive officer, Andrew Moss, earlier this week, following a shareholder revolt over executive remuneration.

The group’s chairman designate, John McFarlane, has since been named interim executive deputy chairman and assumed the task of improving shareholder value via a set of new priorities that include an in-depth review of all Aviva’s investments.
