RFIB has established an office in Riyadh, having recently been granted an intermediary licence by the Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency to conduct insurance and reinsurance business in Saudi Arabia.

The new unit is headed by Anthony Harris, a former British Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, who has worked for RFIB in the Middle East region since February 2006.

Naji Al Tamimi, an insurance professional and Saudi national, has been appointed deputy general manager, having previously held the post of key accounts manager at Malath Cooperative Insurance & Reinsurance.

Commenting on developments, Mr Harris says: “RFIB has been handling reinsurance risks from the Saudi market for nearly 30 years, but our new insurance and reinsurance broking licence is the final stage in our establishing a domestic presence in this important and growing market.”

The firm is currently seeking further recruits from the local market to work closely with its international team in London.

In recent months, RFIB has expanded its presence in Eastern Europe with the opening of an office in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
