Aviva tops European green companies’ list

Aviva has emerged as the “greenest” of Europe’s 300 largest companies, according to the Environmental Investment Organisation (EIO).

The UK-based independent research body places Dutch firm, Aegon, in second place and RSA at number seven.

Having just launched the Europe 300, the body says it will be rolling out further regional rankings in the coming months, with the ET North America 300, Asia-Pacific 300 and BRICS 100 all under development.

Operation’s director, Sam Gill, says: “The purpose of the Carbon Rankings is two fold: to highlight the carbon emissions and levels of disclosure of the world’s largest companies with the aim of fostering greater transparency, and to form the basis of a series of stock market indexes, designed specifically to provide the investment community with a viable tool for tackling climate change.”

Last month, Aviva extended its engineering, marine, construction and operational risks offering to include onshore wind generation, solar and waste power generation.

According to the insurer, the UK’s environmental goods and services sector is set for strong growth as incentives to lower emissions develop.
