Confused.com has added five brands to its list of motor insurance providers.

Make-specific providers including Honda, Nissan and Renault now feature on the price comparison site, as well as Santander and Magic Quote, which is a brand from the Adrian Flux insurance group.

The latter specialises in customers that can be difficult to place, such as young drivers, people with poor claims histories and those with high performance cars.

Confused.com says it now compares polices and prices from 90 insurance providers and commercial manager, John Cooper, comments: “The new additions strengthen our position and customers can feel assured they will get a competitive quote and a policy that is right for them.”

Earlier this week, the firm revealed that parents are paying a high price for adding learner-driver offspring to their policies.

Research from the company shows that adding a 19-year-old provisional driver to a policy can increase premiums ninefold.

The firm suggests at that the cost may still seem reasonable when compared to a premium for a learner in their own car, but points out that drivers who pass their tests and want to go on to buy a car may well be in for a shock because they haven’t had a chance to accrue any no claims bonus.
