Norwich Union (NU) has issued an update on its promise to return £40 million of unclaimed assets to 40,000 customers, who have forgotten about their investments with the insurer.

So far NU has returned £10 million to elusive policyholders with the help of Assets Reunited, which it has appointed to do the tracing.

The company’s chief operating officer, Cathryn Riley, describes the progress made so far as fantastic adding that feedback from customers makes it clear that they appreciate the efforts being made on their behalf.

Returns are currently being made at over £1 million per month with over 3,500 customers benefiting so far.

A further 10,000 customers and are in the process of being reunited with cash amounting to £25 million in total.

The reasons why the money has remained unclaimed include customers moving and forgetting to inform NU of their new addresses and policy documents being lost.

Anyone who believes they may be entitled to recover an unclaimed payout should take a look at NU website for details of how to apply.
