Leading renewable energy insurer RSA has announced the creation of a trio of “Centres of Excellence” to be based in the UK, Denmark and Canada.

The three centres have been established to provide underwriting, risk management and claims support 20 renewable energy teams across the globe.

The Centres of Excellence will act as worldwide hubs for regional development teams and provide its clientele with a single focus point for their insurance solution.

Steve Kelly, global leader for Bioenergy, will lead the London-based Centre of Excellence for Bioenergy & Solar Energy.

At present biomass accounts for a tenth of global energy consumption and its share will only rise in the future.

Similarly, solar power is set to increase in usage, with its utility doubling since 2006.

The Centre of Excellence for Small Hydro Renewable Energy will be based in Toronto and headed up by the global leader for Hydro Energy Insurance, Dan Johns.

Hydro energy is amongst the oldest of the renewables, and has been proven to be an effective means of sustainable power generation.

Copenhagen will host the Centre of Excellence for Wind Energy and be led by Niels Kragelund, global leader of Wind Energy Insurance.

More than two-fifths of all wind turbines are of Danish origin, and the sector is increasing by 20% annually.
