Moorhouse Group, the commercial insurance provider, has reported that its Xbroker portal is used by more UK brokers than any of the similar portals provided by its competitors.

Xbroker has a membership of 3,800 brokers and it expects to gain 30,000 new policyholders by mid-2008.

It also expects 600 new brokers to sign up by next summer. Membership varies with brokers having gross written premiums of between £250,000 and £250m.

Xbroker is currently providing 6,500 commercial quotations a month, of which 15% result new business.

Moorhouse substantially expanded its Xbroker business when it acquired Shakespeare Underwriting, 18 months ago.

Although it had to clear a backlog of over 3,000 policy issues, the acquisition added new lines to the Xbroker range, including NU, AIG and NIG.

Xbroker now has seven product lines provided by several different insurers and from August it will add professional indemnity cover from ACE to its offering.

Moorhouse Group has expanded rapidly since it began trading as Liability Direct Underwriting, in August 1990. The group is now one of the UK’s leading commercial insurance providers.
