RSA scoops employee engagement award

RSA has scooped the award for employee engagement at this year’s Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) People Management Awards, after demonstrating an “impressive array” of tactics.

According to CIPD, five years’ ago RSA was experiencing low morale, generating disappointing financial returns and struggling to recruit the right talent.

However, by recognising the capability of its own leaders, the insurer has turned the situation around and is justified in claiming to be “the world’s most engaged insurance company”.

As well as significantly improved mean engagement scores (rising from 3.80 in 2008 to 4.34 in 2011, using Gallup’s Q12 methodology), RSA’s ability to highlight a positive correlation between a team’s engagement levels and customer satisfaction, as well as new business growth, demonstrated the value of its employee engagement programme.

Commenting on the award, CIPD chief executive officer, Peter Cheese, said: “RSA impressed the judges with the extent and depth of measures used to boost engagement at the organisation and its commitment to the programme despite dealing with organisational change.

“Initiatives such as RSA’s ‘leading through change’ training programme, provided to all of its 1,100 managers and its 300th birthday celebrations which engaged employees in committing 40,000 hours in volunteering and raising £750,000 for good causes, particularly stood out.”
