The Board of the Association of British Insurers (ABI) has nominated Tidjane Thiam to be its next chairman, with effect from 3 July.
Thiam, Prudential plc chief executive, will succeed Legal & General’s Tim Breedon after the completion of his two year term of office.
Thiam has been Prudential plc’s executive director since 2008, sits on the Prime Minister’s Business Advisory Council and previously held executive positions with Aviva.
ABI Director General Otto Thoresen said that Thiam was a globally recognised business leader, adding that his understanding of the industry would be a huge asset to insurers based in the UK.
Thiam himself described the nomination as a huge honour and praised Breedon for the outstanding job he had done whilst in the role.
