International specialty property/casualty insurer and reinsurer Catlin Group Limited has been given approval by the China Insurance Regulatory Commission to open and operate a wholly owned representative office in Beijing.

The establishment of the representative office will enable Catlin to more closely liaise with relevant departments in the Chinese Government and to conduct market research in China more easily.

The firm has also announced that their new office will be led by Chief Representative Freeman Zhang.

Catlin has operated from an office in Hong Kong since 2006, and opened its Shanghai office one year later.

Last year the firm formed a partnership with China Reinsurance (Group) Corporation, which has enabled it to broaden its knowledge of insurance and reinsurance practices in China.

Chief Executive Stephen Catlin has expressed his delight at the firm’s approval to open a new office in Beijing.
