With Easter approaching and three-quarters of Britons due to do a little DIY around the home, AXA is warning of costly accidents as claims are expected to spike on Easter Monday.
The Easter break is expected to see 71% of people doing DIY or maintenance around the home, but AXA has warned that the 50% lacking accidental damage coverage could be in for a costly Easter.
Figures for the last three years show that accidental damage claims spike by 29% compared to the annual average, with the average claim being almost £500.
AXA’s Head of Household Claims Christine Matthews described the UK as a nation of enthusiastic DIYers and advised those planning on doing some over the Easter break to ensure that have appropriate insurance coverage.
Aviva has called on those planning to do some DIY work to check the outside of their homes, and conduct what they call a ‘home MOT’, checking chimney stacks and ensuring that the garden remains free of Japanese Knotweed.
