BIBA and IIB commence merger
The British Insurance Brokers’ Association (BIBA) is merging with the Institute of Insurance Brokers (IIB), with a number of IIB board directors joining BIBA’s board from today.
Notably, IIB chief executive, Barbara Bradshaw, has become a BIBA board and executive member, reporting to the Association’s chief executive, Eric Galbraith.
In her new role, she will be responsible for integrating the membership of the two organisations and developing a group that will focus on the issues that affect smaller firms.
Commenting on the merger, Mr Galbraith, says: “We have always strongly believed that one voice within the broking sector is needed and I believe that it is for the benefit of the sector that both organisations come together.”
Ms Bradshaw adds: “Looking at the merger wearing a cost benefits analysis hat, taking out duplication of operations and capitalising on each other’s strengths has a clear advantage for all.”
IIB chairman, Graham Gomm, is equally confident about the move, stating: “The market has changed beyond recognition and if ever there was a need for one united front to represent all types of general insurance brokers it is now.”
The two brands will remain until all IIB members are fully integrated into BIBA’s membership.
