Towergate Insurance has announced the appointment of James Strachan to the board as an independent non-executive director and chairman of the Group Risk and Compliance Committee.

Strachan, whose appointment is contingent upon FSA approval, is presently a non-executive director of the Financial Services Authority, JPMorgan Asian Investment plc, Welsh Water Limited, Sarasin and Partners LLP, and Social Finance Limited.

During his career he has held a wide range of senior positions, including chairman of the Audit Commission, non-executive director of Legal and General and membership of the Court of Directors of the Bank of England.

Towergate Non-executive Chairman Alastair Lyons expressed his delight at Strachan’s appointment to the board, welcoming his first class risk management credentials and commercial acumen.
