The BGL Group has reported its financial results for the year from July 2010 to June 2011.

Group Chief Executive Peter Winslow described the year as seeing a strong performance, including increased profits and contract extensions.

Pre-tax profits increased, year-on-year by 16%, to £72m, up from £62m in the previous year.

The firm also added 400,000 to its customer base, which reached 3.9 million from 3.5 million at the end of the previous year.

The year saw an expansion of the comparethemarket.com’s ‘meerkat’ campaign, as well as the retention of Junction’s M&S Money contract for a further five years.

Winslow said that the firm prided itself on creating prosperity by operating profitably, and added that he was proud of the contribution the firm had made to its stakeholders over the last year.

In May BGL Group received permission to construct a new building next to its head office in Orton Southgate in Peterborough.
