Marsh has appointed Bill Pieroni to the role of chief operating officer, effective September 19th.

Responsible for the firm’s global operations, in his new role Mr Pieroni will also focus on maximising performance and delivering superior and differentiated value to clients.

He will be based in New York and report to Marsh Inc’s chief executive officer, Peter Zaffino, who describes his new officer as “a distinguished industry leader with a tremendous track record in organisational transformation”.

Mr Pieroni joins from State Farm where as senior vice president and part of the Office of the chairman, he was responsible for US and international strategic planning, competitor and consumer research and internal consulting.

Previously he served as Aon’s senior vice president and global chief information officer, with responsibility for operations across retail, wholesale, and reinsurance brokerage.
