Acromas Insurance Company Limited, previously known as Saga motor insurance, has secured a landmark triumph against fraud as a couple who attempted to file a large fraudulent insurance claim have been found guilty of contempt of court.

Graham and Susan Loveday attempted to claim for serious personal injury after a traffic incident, but were found out when photos posted on a social networking site proved false the claim of disability.

Mr. Loveday was given a nine month custodial sentence, and Mrs. Loveday received a six month suspended sentence.

Acromas, advised by legal firm Keoghs, have said that if the fraud had not been discovered the seven figure payout would have added £1.50 to the cost of every Saga insurance premium.

Chief Executive of Saga Services Roger Ramsden warned that insurance fraud was not a crime without victims, as it increases premiums for the innocent.

Neil Southern, partner at law firm Keoghs, described the finding as positive for both the insurance industry and policyholders across the country.
