The British Insurance Brokers’ Association (BIBA) has welcomed the new warning letters being sent from today to registered keepers identified as having an uninsured vehicle under Continuous Insurance Enforcement (CIE) legislation.
CIE makes it an offence to keep an uninsured vehicle unless it has a Statutory Off Road Notification or is exempt, and it comes in addition to the existing offence of driving without insurance.
BIBA’s head of corporate affairs, Graeme Trudgill, comments: “The enforcement of the new law is a bold move to tackle uninsured driving and will make the roads safer.”
He adds: “BIBA is delighted to have been involved in this important change to motor insurance law, this is a big step forward for the industry and for road safety.”
Both consumer and broker guides on Continuous Insurance Enforcement are available on the BIBA website.

Begs the question though that if you’re not responsible enough to get insurance will the details on the registered keeper list be correct? The underlying principle is sound but surely it’s going to create a lot of unwanted bureaucracy.
