With some disruption over the skies of Europe from the volcanic ash cloud, Ageas has advised customers with a policy start date prior to 23 May 2011, who also booked their trip prior to 23 May 2011, that they will be covered as per the terms and conditions.

Customers are advised to first contact the travel operator or airline to see whether alternative arrangements can be put into place, or whether costs can be recovered.

There is cover for abandoning a holiday from the UK or for delays into/out of the UK provided that a minimum period of delay has passed.

However, disruption due to the ash cloud is not covered by policies dating from 23 May onwards as it is now a known event.

Earlier this week the Association of British Insurers (ABI) issued guidance relating to the ash cloud, advising travellers to contact their airline, travel agent or airport for up to date information and either refunds or alternative arrangements.
