The British Insurance Brokers’ Association (BIBA) and the Institute of Insurance Brokers (IIB) have confirmed that they are in formal discussions regarding a merger.
BIBA chairman, Patrick Smith, made the announcement during today’s opening address of the BIBA 2011 conference and exhibition in Manchester.
The Association’s chief executive, Eric Galbraith, commented: “I strongly believe that in the new regulatory environment one voice within the broking sector is needed.”
He added: “One association would add strength to our lobbying campaigns on the big issues affecting brokers.”
It is intended that IIB chief executive, Barbara Bradshaw, and her team will form part of any combined organisation, and the finer details of the proposed merger should be thrashed out by the end of the year.
