Dermot Dick has been named by XL Re, the global reinsurance operations of XL Group plc, as the new manager for the Middle East.

Dick brings extensive knowledge of the insurance and reinsurance market in the Middle East to his new position, and was recently chief executive officer of Q-Re, the international reinsurance operation of Qatar Insurance Company (QIC).

He has also worked as QIC’s executive vice president of International Underwriting, and was deputy syndicate underwriter at Syndicate 1243 at Lloyd’s.

XL Re Europe Chief Executive David Watson explained that the Middle East was undergoing substantial growth in infrastructure and financial services, and described the region as an important growth area for XL Re.

Watson also welcomed Dick’s appointment, and paid tribute to his track record of reinsurance success in the Middle East.
