XL Insurance has expanded its product recall capability with the appointment of new underwriters in New York and London.

The move follows increasing demand for food and beverage product contamination cover, especially for North American companies.

John Turner joins in New York as product recall manager for North America, bringing with him more than 20 years of insurance market experience, including multi-industry product recall.

Most recently Mr Turner was vice president and head of casualty at McLarens Young International, in Boston.

Mark Hutton joins the London office as product recall manager for London market business, having 15 years of experience specialising in the food & beverage, pharmaceutical and consumer goods sectors.

He joins from McLarens Young International’s UK operation, where he was head of casualty.

XL has also recently appointed David Longley as senior underwriter design professional, London.

Mr Longley has joined from Ace Europe, where he was senior professional indemnity underwriter focusing on the construction industry.

In January, Reynolds Porter Chamberlain reported that the UK saw the highest number of product recalls ever during the year to 31st October 2010.

According to the City law firm, incidents were up 12% on the previous 12 month period, to 229, with recalls of pharmaceutical and other healthcare products rising 40%.
