Broker Network and Countrywide have reported “extraordinary” levels of new membership enquiries resulting in a record 19 members joining the network so far in 2011.

The expansion brings an additional £40 million of annualised gross written premium to the group, which has announced two appointments in support of growth.

Andrew Mirfin has been appointed head of sales and John Neill head of business development for Broker Network.

Mr Mirfin moves from General Accident, where he has been a regional sales manager, heading a team of 17, while Mr Neill joins from Alker Insurance Brokers, a CCV business based in Wigan.

In their new roles, both will report into Scott Bennett, director of sales for Broker Network and Countrywide.

Commenting on developments, Broker Network and Countrywide managing director, Nick Houghton, says: “We have experienced an extraordinary start to the year, with 19 brokers joining us and an extremely healthy pipeline of early stage applications.”

He adds: “This is due in part to the ‘pain’ that brokers are increasingly experiencing outside of the Network, caused by a continuing soft market, frustration with insurer service and clunky regulation.”

Broker Network and Countrywide together now form a network of over 700 independent brokers.
