Amorous acts distract British drivers
As couples up and down the country enjoy the most romantic day of the year, research from The Co-operative Insurance has revealed that frisky behaviour is the single biggest distraction behind the wheel.
One in five UK drivers in a relationship have stated that amorous behaviour whilst driving has led to either an accident or a near miss.
Three out of 10 confirm that their driving is worse when their partner is a passenger, and 44% have stated that they find their partner distracting.
Women are more likely than men to be distracted by their partner and thus drive more poorly (37% to 24%).
However, the second biggest distraction is having an argument with a partner, followed by backseat driving and having a partner chattering away.
Head of Motor Insurance Grant Mitchell has said that the research highlights the distracting potential of partners, and asked drivers to keep their attention on the road.
