Towergate launches School Closures Insurance

Towergate has launched School Closures Insurance, which is aimed at protecting parents against loss of earnings and additional childcare costs.

The intermediary claims that the cover is the first of its type in the UK, costing £30 per annum for each child.

Once a school has been closed for more than one day because of snow, flooding or boiler failure, policyholders can receive up to £100 per day for a maximum of five days, and there is no requirement for parents to provide evidence of loss of earnings or additional costs.

The firm reminds those with school-age children that the first week of December saw over 19,000 schools in England close due to heavy snow and freezing temperatures that made roads impassable and caused heating systems to fail.

The group’s chief executive officer, Jonathan Walker, comments: “There’s no doubt that unpredictable weather conditions are causing more and more schools to close.”

He adds: “This leaves many parents with the hassle of taking time off work or trying to arrange extra childcare at short notice.”
