EIOPA prepares second Europe-wide insurers’ stress test

| January 13, 2011 | 0 Comments

The European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority (EIOPA) is preparing for the second Europe-wide stress test for the insurance sector, at the beginning of the second quarter of 2011.

The test, which will be conducted in cooperation with the European Systemic Risk Board and respective national supervisory authorities, aims to identify and quantify the impact of the different stress scenarios on an insurer’s financial position, in an adverse and very severe economic environment.

It is targeted towards the European insurance sector and will include a minimum of 50% of insurance companies per country, measured by gross premium income.

Currently, EIOPA is drawing up proposal covering the scope of the exercise, framework and economic scenarios under which financial positions will be tested.

However, the Authority will consult both national supervisors and insurance associations before finalising the framework.
