Towers Watson has strengthened its presence in the Continental European reinsurance market by appointing three new staff to its Paris-based reinsurance team as follows:

Meriem Yabari, a qualified actuary of the Institut des Actuaires, joins to lead the team in both casualty and property analytics; Firouzeh Poursardar, a senior broker with expertise in property, casualty and motor insurance, and Jean-Francois Delon who will head the firm’s reinsurance division in France.

Mr Delon joins from Aon Benfield, having more than 20 years of reinsurance expertise, which includes six years in London and experience in the French market, focusing in particular on property, motor and marine insurance.

Mrs Yabari, a former Guy Carpenter vice president, will work on catastrophe modelling output and brokerage development, while Mrs Poursardar, formerly of Aon Benfield, will focus on developing Towers Watson’s growth in the French market, particularly the mutuals sector.

Commenting on the appointments, the group’s reinsurance chief executive officer for Europe, Ross Howard, says: “These three individuals bring a wealth of international expertise and local market knowledge ideally suited to making the most of continued opportunities for growth in Europe.”

He adds: “The decision to expand reinsurance operations in Paris reflects the continued development and growth of Towers Watson’s European reinsurance business and we will continue to bolster our presence in key markets in due course.”

Last week, Towers Watson appointed Chris Ford as investment leader for EMEA.

Mr Ford joined the company in 1990 and has held a variety of research, consulting and management positions, including heading the New York investment practice, from 2000 to 2003.
