Allianz staff development focuses on actuaries and women

Allianz is launching an international programme to address the threat of a shortage in skilled insurance personnel.

Focusing on both the promotion of women and the development of professions where new recruits are likely to be in short supply, the global workforce planning scheme involves analysing how staff numbers will develop within the group’s individual companies up to 2020.

According to Allianz, one of the critical expert functions is that of the actuary, and as a first step the company has launched a development programme for talented new actuaries as well as for staff already working in the company.

Allianz SE chairman, Michael Diekmann, comments: “The program is exciting for experts who want to work on the international stage and engage in a cross-border exchange of ideas.”

In addition, the insurer is determined that by 2015, women should make up 30% of the talent pool for its managerial positions.

HR Director, Wolfgang Brezina, explains: “No company can afford not to exploit the potential of nearly 50% of its employees at all levels.”

Separately, Aon Benfield has recently reported that it expects the role of the actuary to evolve in the years ahead to deliver “more robust enterprise risk management” that will include the design of potential scenarios, rather than retrospective statistical analysis.
