New industry standard for PMI authorisations

The British Insurance Brokers’ Association (BIBA) and the Association of Medical Insurance Intermediaries (AMII) have launched a new industry standard template for private medical insurance (PMI) authorisations.

In addition to introducing a standard review period of 90 days, the new form clearly establishes the options a customer has in dealing with a new intermediary or broker.

The initiative is the first of its kind to be devised by the AMII/BIBA PMI Panel, which was established in 2009 to bring together insurers and intermediaries to discuss issues of common concern within the PMI sector.

The Panel currently includes representatives from nine of the UK’s PMI insurers (who between them represent more than 95% of the UK market) as well as representation from BIBA’s Healthcare Focus Group and AMII.
