by Gill Montia
Catlin Group’s Canadian subsidiary is opening offices in Vancouver and Montreal, in early November.
The move will allow Catlin Canada to expand its distribution more fully by targeting business complementary to that already written by its offices in Toronto and Calgary.
Pat Bruzzese will lead the new Montreal office as branch manager, having previously headed the Montreal office of GCAN Insurance.
Other staff will include Flavia Di Girolamo, property manager Quebec; Robert Foster, senior underwriter Property & Casualty; and Lucy Martinello, office manager.
Ian Rutherford has been appointed branch manager of the Vancouver office.
He previously headed with Vancouver office of GCAN Insurance and will be joined by senior underwriters, Rory O’Donoghue and Lawrence Quan.
According to Catlin Canada’s chief executive officer, Mike Hansen: “The addition of these offices – along with experienced and highly regarded staff – reinforces Catlin Canada’s commitment to provide truly local service in key markets across Canada.”
He adds: “The new offices will play an important part in our planned growth over the next three to five years.”
In other Catlin Group new, the speciality insurer and reinsurer is in the process of establishing a reinsurance company in Switzerland.
The new unit, which will have capital of at least $1 billion, is described by the company as a “major development” in its European expansion strategy, allowing it to take advantage of opportunities as they arise in the European market, including those created by Solvency II.
