Bupa Care Services has entered into a partnership with the University of Bradford’s internationally recognised centre for excellence, Bradford Dementia Group, to enable its care home to staff to benefit from specialist dementia care training.
The ‘Person First, Dementia Second’ training is being taken up by every member of Bupa’s specialist dementia care home staff, including managerial and administrative staff.
The aim is to help foster a better quality of life for those suffering from dementia by increasing the knowledge and understanding of the care home staff.
Dr Graham Stokes, Director of Dementia Care at Bupa Care Services, has explained that it is vital for the firm’s staff to be able to appreciate the perspective those suffering with dementia have of the world.
Bupa has 150 specialist dementia care homes, and more than 8,000 staff working in them.
