Crash-for-cash fraudster ordered to repay £150,000
A former member of a “crash-for-cash” gang has been ordered to repay £150,000 under the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA), having already been jailed in 2008 for his involvement in a major insurance fraud.
Mohammed Rashid, known as Mojo, faced a new hearing at Bradford Crown Court this week when he was ordered to stump up the money within six months, or face extra time inside.
Commenting on the case, Detective Sergeant Dave Marston of Airedale and North Bradford Police POCA unit, said: “This is a very substantial and significant confiscation for our POCA team in Keighley and really does hammer the message home that we do now have the tools to make sure crime does not pay.”
The ill-gotten gains recovered from Mr Rashid will be used in the fight against crime nationally and go to assist projects that aim to deter people from becoming involved in criminal behaviour.
