L&G shares rise on Zurich bid speculation
Shares in Legal & General rose almost 3% yesterday, alongside reports that Zurich Financial Services could be preparing a bid.
The news comes in the same week that Aviva officially rejected a £5 billion proposal from RSA to acquire its general insurance businesses in the UK, Ireland and Canada.
Despite the rebuff, AXA and Resolution Ltd are now reported to be showing an interest in the break-up of the insurance giant, which has produced a strong set of results for the first-half of 2010.
IFRS operating profit was up 21% on a year earlier, to £1.27 billion.
