Virgin reminder on download cover
Virgin Money is reminding homeowners that not all home insurance policies cover digital music and film collections.
According to the media and finance group, CD sales decreased by close to 10% during the first half of 2010.
During the same period the online download market grew by 34%, meaning that music and movie fans are increasingly at risk of losing their entire collections if their insurer does not include datafiles as personal possessions.
Virgin spokesman, Grant Bather, comments: “While people may think to include their CDs in their insurance policies, downloaded files are often ignored.”
He adds: “If your computer or laptop is lost, stolen or damaged a lot of information and film and music downloads could be lost, at considerable expense unless you have download cover.”
Virgin Money’s home and contents policy covers up to £3,000 in downloaded material but receipts are needed for any claim.
