Hasting Direct reaches 600,000 customer milestone

Hastings Direct, the personal lines brokers, has passed the 600,000 customer milestone.

In February Chief Executive Officer Edward Fitzmaurice led a management buy-out, since when the firm’s fortunes have turned around from making a loss to profitability and growth.

The volume of business the firm underwrites has increased by 50%, with staff numbers and income per policy also increased.

Over the course of the last 12 months the broker has introduced a call centre and anti-fraud team and updated its website, as well as constructing a new control room and intranet.

Fitzmaurice has stated that Hastings has doubled its market share and is on track to become one of the UK’s top brokers by 2012.

He added that the broker had achieved a good quality book for its insurers whilst at the same time providing customers with a product range at a good price.

Chairman Neil Utley praised the turn around in the firm since the management buy-out, describing the achievements of Fitzmaurice and the staff as superb.
