Global specialty insurer Torus has announced the appointments of Esther Fittinghoff and Kurt Fleischmann as Professional Lines manager and senior casualty underwriter respectively.

The pair are to be based in Cologne and Zurich, in offices the firm took over when it acquired Glacier Insurance AG.

Fittinghoff will lead the Professional Lines in Austria, Germany and Switzerland, and will be directly responsible to Marc van der Veer, chief underwriting officer of Specialty Europe.

She joins the firm from AXA Corporate Solutions, where she worked as a Financial Lines underwriter, and earlier in her career she worked for Chubb Insurance.

Fleischmann will be tasked with developing the Casualty underwriting business in the same three nations, and will report to Thomas Guesde, head of Continental Casualty.

He leaves behind Ace, where he led the development of the European Portfolio, to join Torus, bringing with him over three decades of experience.

Chief Operating Officer for Continental Europe Richard Etridge, formerly of Glacier Insurance, has described the appointments as vital for the firm’s efforts in developing its long term position in Europe.
