Courtesy cars standard with only 23% of car insurance

Financial research company Defaqto has conducted research which reveals huge variability between the numerous comprehensive car insurance policies available in the UK.

The research indicated that less than a quarter (23%) of insurance policies include a courtesy car as standard, with less than half (49%) not providing a courtesy car at all.

Twenty-eight percent of insurance policies have a courtesy car as an optional extra, available at the time of purchase.

The courtesy car was found by Defaqto’s research to matter most to 35 to 44 year olds, most especially those with children.

Both the provision of a courtesy car during repair and during a claim settlement appeared in the top 10 most desirable features of car insurance according to the survey.

Insight Analyst Mike Powell advised those browsing for car insurance to check whether or not courtesy car provision is included, as discovering it is not at an inopportune moment can prove inconvenient and vexing.
