Locks are key cover for women drivers
New research from Defaqto suggests that women motorists are more concerned than men that their insurance policy covers the cost of replacing car locks in the event of keys being lost or stolen.
The study also reveals that 24% of policies do not include cover for locks under such circumstances.
Furthermore, where cover is provided 39% of policies examined in the research apply a claim limit of £1,500, with only 37% of policies offering more.
Defaqto’s insight analyst for general insurance, Mike Powell, comments: “Where cover is given, most policies will pay for the costs of replacing the locks, subject to any policy limit.”
He adds: “Other policies also include cover for the costs of replacing the vehicles lock transmitter and central locking interface, and the affected parts of the alarm and/or immobiliser”.
Mr Powell therefore recommends reading the policy small print carefully.
