Niraj Shah has been named by Groupama Insurances as the firm’s new chief actuary.
Shah brings with him a decade and a half of experience in the financial sector, including six years in the actuarial sphere.
Prior to his appointment he played a key role in preparations for the incoming Solvency II regulations, leading Groupama’s capital modelling exercise.
Shah will take up his new post in July, and report directly to Managing Director Laurent Matras.
In his new position he will head up the specialist Actuarial, Reinsurance and Knowledge Management team, replacing Steven Blake who is parting ways with Groupama to take up a senior post with RSA.
Matras has expressed delight at Shah’s appointment to the post of chief actuary, adding that Shah already has the respect of the senior underwriting teams and developed some strong relationships.
