ABI issues World Cup reminder

The Association of British Insurers (ABI) has issued a reminder to the 20,000 English football fans due to travel to the World Cup in South Africa to ensure that they have adequate travel insurance.

Director of General Insurance and Health Nick Starling has said that proper insurance is essential for fans travelling to South Africa, regardless of whether they are travelling independently or as part of a package.

Starling reminded fans to make sure they have adequate coverage and to check with their insurer over any matter that requires clarification.

Particularly important is medical coverage, and ensuring that the insurer is aware of any pre-existing medical conditions.

The cost of returning to the UK due to emergency medical repatriation can exceed £25,0001 outside Europe, making medical coverage essential.

The advice echoes that of Direct Travel Insurance, issued in March, to take out insurance as soon as possible to maximise the benefit of cancellation coverage.
