Open GI welcomes eCertificate legislation

Brokers faced with the recent changes to UK motor insurance legislation can benefit from Open GI’s document fulfilment solutions, saving firms thousands of pounds.

At the end of April the law changed to permit electronic delivery of motor insurance certificates, removing the necessity of sending hard copy documents to customers unless specifically asked to do so.

It is estimated that the change could save the insurance sector £11m a year, with Open GI calculating that brokers could average a saving of £36,000 by adopting document fulfilment solutions, including Open Print Manager and Open Document Centre.

Sales and Marketing Director Simon Hughes has said the changes will encourage brokers to review how they communicate with clients.

Hughes went on to welcome the change in the law, describing it as one of the few such changes that has actually helped the insurance industry.

However, Hughes did remind brokers their communciations must be in line with the FSA regulations and predicted the FSA would take a hard line with any who fall foul of the new rules.
