Motorists urged to maintain their cars properly
Research from the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) has found that one in every ten cars in the United Kingdom has one tyre with an illegal tread depth.
The finding follows that of Post Office Car Insurance, which discovered that 48% of motorists had cut corners when it came to repairing or maintaining their vehicles.
Twenty-eight percent of motorists confessed that their penny-pinching ways were so excessive it compromised the safety of themselves and other road users.
In addition, 6% of motorists had not done anything at all to resolve an ‘advisory’ problem raised during an MOT.
Drivers have been reminded by Post Office Car Insurance that failure to properly maintain a vehicle can invalidate a car insurance policy.
Head of Car Insurance Richard Pennant-Jones has strongly advised drivers not to cut corners when it comes to car maintenance, and warned of the severe safety risks this can create.
