Jelf Group plc has announced that Phil Barton has been promoted from his present position as group commercial director to the newly created post of Jelf Insurance chief executive officer.

He has been with the firm since 2003, during which time he has helped formulate Jelf’s strategic approach to marketing and led compliance function and, more lately, led recently acquired businesses.

Prior to joining Jelf he worked for AXA and Prudential, occupying senior positions in sales and marketing.

In his new role Barton will be directly responsible to Group Chief Executive Alex Alway.

With effect from 1 May Barton will assume responsibility for the entirety of Jelf’s insurance operations.

Alway has described Barton as a key member of the senior management team, adding that he was delighted at the appointment and expressed his full confidence in Barton’s ability to handle the role.
