Specialist property and casualty insurer Markel International has announced that it has appointed Mike Bridgeman to lead the development of a new accident and health business within its own specialty division.

Bridgeman, whose appointment is effective from 1 May, is to be based in London.

He brings decades of experience in underwriting to Markel, having worked in both the Lloyd’s and Company markets.

Bridgeman was formerly the head of accident and health at QBE, where he worked for 11 years, prior to joining Markel International.

In his new position he will be tasked with creating a broad accident and health account and bringing together a top class underwriting team with a focus upon London market/high risk, sports, schemes/affinity, corporate and SME.

President of Markel International Insurance Company Ltd Jeremy Brazil has expressed his delight at Bridgeman’s recruitment, describing him as possessing the ideal background for the job.
