Towergate Underwriting is offering an enhanced service to its brokers in the North East and Cumbria, having opened an office in Newcastle.

Branch manager Jon Hipkin, who has over 20 years’ experience supporting brokers across the region, has been appointed to lead a team of locally recruited underwriters.

The group says the move demonstrates its commitment to supporting brokers and the new office will provide expert underwriting and advice across a wide range of its products.

Chief executive officer, Clive Nathan, comments: “This new underwriting presence demonstrates a significant investment in supporting brokers locally at a time when many of the larger insurers are downsizing or moving out of the regions.”

He adds: “We can now give our brokers in the North East and Cumbria access to local underwriters who really understand their business and who they can trade with face-to-face”

Last week, Towergate Partnership bought independent mortgage broker, John Charcol, via its Towergate Financial unit.

The acquisition supports Towergate Financial’s strategy of establishing a high-net-worth mortgage advisory business to complement its private client and corporate solutions offerings.
