FM Global, which is amongst the largest business property insurers in the world, has announced that 2010 will see a year long commemoration of its 175th anniversary.

The commemoration will underline the firm’s leading role in engineering innovation and information sharing in the past and future.

In addition, a range of new initiatives will be launched including a cutting edge natural hazards laboratory, a programme to utilise social media as a path between the firm’s past and future and major developments in fire protection science and engineering.

Zachariah Allen was one of the USA’s first professional risk managers, and founded FM Global in 1835.

At the time, FM Global was the only insurer that used engineering as its means of protecting property and insuring against loss.

Now, more than a third of FORTUNE 1000 companies choose to have FM Global protect their assets in more than 200 countries around the world.
