Zurich promotes critical illness cover for children

Zurich UK Life is highlighting the advantages of critical illness cover for children today, which is also International Child Cancer day.

The insurance industry has paid out millions to adults suffering from cancer, yet there is relatively little attention paid to the impact on families with children who suffer the illness.

According to the ONS 2007 saw 1721 incidents of young people (up to the age of 19) with cancer.

Zurich provides additional children’s cover with its critical illness cover, charging nothing extra for a coverage period of 17 years.

Underwriting and Claims Director Phil Brown has said that since 2008 Zurich UK Life has paid out more than £975,000 to 60 families whose children were afflicted with life-threatening cancer.

Each case is assessed individually and payments vary from £15,000 to £25,000.

Earlier this year Zurich UK Life reported that both the number of claims and the total sum paid out for critical illness cover rose in 2009, whilst the number of claims declined fell.
