Markel International hires international development director

Specialty property and casualty insurer Markel International has announced the appointment of Simon Wilson as director of international development.

Wilson leaves behind Lloyd’s, where he served as general representative to Singapore and managing director of Asia, to join Markel.

During his time at Lloyd’s he oversaw the development of its Singapore platform, including the creation of 17 Lloyd’s syndicates, and prior to working for Lloyd’s he was a consultant with Deloitte Consulting’s specialist financial services group.

In his new role with Markel Wilson will initially be seconded to the firm’s Singapore office, later moving to London, and will be responsible for international development and project work.

President and chief operating officer William Stovin has expressed his delight at Wilson’s appointment, adding that he had no doubt Wilson would prove a great asset for the firm as it seeks to match its ambitious growth targets.
