CETA recruits as online sales surge

CETA Insurance will be taking on 20 new customer service and administration staff during 2010, on the back of a 60% rise in online sales in the past year.

The Chipping Norton-based general insurer attributes its success to a decision to balance the business across both broker and online sales.

Managing director, David Quick, says: “Last year we saw huge growth in the Internet with the number of policies sold via our web sites such as insuremyliability.co.uk up by more than 150%”.

He adds: “The key growth areas were commercial policies for small businesses such as liability, and leisure cover such as caravans, boats and equine.”

CETA currently gives its broker network access to policies for use on their own websites or to white label, and urges brokers to embrace online sales to build a stronger more diverse business, particularly as motor and home insurance costs are set to rise this year.

Mr Quick explains: “Rates are going to harden because insurers are struggling to make investment gains … that is going to make buyers look even harder for good value deals so competition is still going to be very strong.”

Earlier this month, new research revealed that insurance is the product most susceptible to switching by consumers.

A study carried out by Professor Merlin Stone of Oxford Brookes University indicated that over the last two years, some 15 million people have switched their motor insurer and 14 million their home insurance company.

Poor customer services was cited as a major contributor for the need to switch.
